Hidden Agendas: It's possible that Shanks has hidden motives or agendas that have yet to be revealed.He had stolen the  Hito Hito No Mi Model: Sun God Nika (often known as Gomu Gomu No Mi) & his decision of doing so is still mysterious because obviously he would never give it to one of his crewmates or ate that by himself(There's no df user on his crew). He suddenly appeared at Wano Kuni & Announced the decision of going to the Laughtale where he could just be The King easily in the past years except having banquets 24/7. Perhaps he has been secretly working towards a larger goal that conflicts with Luffy's own ambitions. This could involve a power struggle or a clash of ideologies between the two characters.

2. The Will of D: The enigmatic "Will of D" has been a recurring theme in the "One Piece" story.
